Job Description

TRANSPORT MANAGER
TELFORD/SHREWSBURY

Assist coordination of multi drop drivers making deliveries in the Telford and Shrewsbury Region. 
Co-ordinating drivers to collect from our customers. 
Ensure that deliveries are completed on time and efficiently and all traffic activities are accurately documented and reported. 
Ensure a first-class service is received by the end customer. 
First point of contact for drivers. 
Optimising the use of the entire fleet ensuring that we always remain efficient and cost effective. 
Liaising with other departments across the company. 
Provide instructions/support to drivers. 
Dealing with customer enquiries by telephone. 
Ensure all databases are up to date with the most accurate information. 
Proactively seek to maintain no late deliveries, missed time slots or customer collections. 
Making sure that drivers are legally compliant. 
Delivering KPI’s as set by our National network partners 

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: 
  • Great communication and organisation skills. 
  • Strong personality with the ability to plan, organise and prioritise own work load. 
  • Composure under pressure in a fast paced environment. 
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines. 
  • Excellent IT literacy.

Additionally they will have additional responsibilities as;

Transport and Planning Manager
  • Overseeing the development and delivery of transport vision and objectives for the company
  • Understanding objectives ensuring measurable and achievable albeit with a stretch
  • Ensuring the environment, health and safety of all are considered as part of your strive
  • Monitoring of reportable incident
  • Managing the Transport Operating Licence and Centre requirements
  • Ensuring transport compliance and legislation is met considering all touchpoints with health and safety legislation 
  • Vehicle compliance, planner delivering timely MOT, PMI, LOLER, Defect Checks, Tyres and Tax
  • Driver compliance, driver working time, drive time, manual entries and infringement
  • Ensuring all vehicle/driver incidents are reported, investigated, and dealt with accordingly
  • Looking for incident trends to enable safer driving and deliver incident reductio
  • Consider powered and manual handling equipment requirements
  • Developing and continuously improving transport policies and training programmes that support the delivery driver in keeping themselves and others safe
  • Managing the annual review of transport risk assessments and the driver safe systems of work
  • Reviewing of RA/SSOW following incidents
  • Delivering driver/warehouse training/toolbox talks 
  • Overseeing all aspects of transport planning, ensuring efficiency of the working region, vehicles and drivers
  • Knowing the risks in your region and ensuring safety procedures are in place ie. low bridges
  • Using suitable vehicles for the capacities required ensuring maximising efficiencies safely
  • Monitoring capacities stay within all legal weight restrictions including vehicle axle weights
  • Monitoring driver’s hours so that shifts are adequately utilised and additional hours are shared evenly across the workforc
  • Managing driver, vehicle and planning data to further enhance efficiencies and savings
  • Forecasting requirements against multi network priorities
  • Building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to gather insights, feedback, and operational data for continuous improvement

The role demands exceptional stakeholder management skills, as it involves engaging with a diverse network of internal and external partners. It also requires exceptional analytical, organisational, and communication abilities, along with a deep understanding of multi-modal transport networks, demand forecasting, and scenario testing.
