Job Description

We are looking for a permanent Waste Strategy & Planning Senior Analyst to join the Waste Strategy & Planning Team at Thames Water. 

The newly established Waste Strategy & Planning Team is becoming a ‘Team Thames’ capability to own and maintain the business plan for the Waste business at Thames Water across the AMP, Annual and Quarterly planning horizons. 

The overall purpose of this team is to enable optimisation of spend across the Waste business to maximise performance across operational, environmental, customer and financial domains; ensuring senior leaders across the Waste business have the resources they need to deliver exceptional outcomes. 

The Waste Strategy & Planning Senior Analyst role will be a critical position within the team, providing information flow from delivery activity in the business into performance reporting.  They play a pivotal role in providing analysis and insight that drives data-driven decision-making to optimise the integrated business plan. 

The role has a focus on performance reporting, scenario modelling and insights rather than data engineering, but an amount of activity will be needed to source the data required to fuel the required key analysis.  The role will also need to effectively communicate with stakeholders, support core PMO governance processes, and provide progress monitoring and management processes. 
  • Full time (36 hours per week) 
  • Location – Hybrid Kemble Court, RG2 6AD 
  • The expectation is for in-person working at a Thames Water office for 2 or 3 days per week 
What you will be doing as a Waste Strategy & Planning Senior Analyst: 
  • Sourcing data and information: work with business data owners and workstream leads to efficiently and accurately collate data and information on performance, progress and benefits to feed into Waste business plan reporting. 
  • Translating data: work with both financial and performance data to translate progress on Waste activities and KPIs into regulatory performance metrics and financial impacts. 
  • Data Analytics and Modelling: Develop, refine, and validate analytical and reporting models to support optimisation of the Waste business plan. 
  • Ownership & Maintenance of the Model: Maintain a single common Waste business plan performance and financial baseline and reporting data. Ensure the Waste business plan model remains accurate, current, and aligned with strategic goals. 
  • Data Quality of Model: Implement quality assurance processes to maintain high data integrity. 
  • Data Reporting: Produce regular and ad hoc reports and dashboards (e.g. via MS Excel / PowerBI) to communicate performance and investment insights. 
  • Governance and Meeting Management: Coordinate and manage Waste Strategy & Planning team governance, including scheduling, agenda setting, and minute taking. 
  • Team Administration & Document Control: Serve as the primary administrative support for the Waste Strategy & Planning team by managing documents, tracking progress, and maintaining action logs. 
  • Progress Support & Action Tracking: Monitor progress against milestones, maintain risk and issue logs, track change logs, and follow up on mitigation actions. 
  • Stakeholder & Communications Support: Support with internal and external communications, ensuring clarity and timeliness of performance report updates. 
  • Problem-Solving Support: Provide ad hoc support in addressing issues and facilitating effective resolutions. 
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:
  • Reporting Tools: Proficiency with data visualisation and reporting tools (e.g. MS Excel / PowerBI) 
  • Business Analysis: Strong analytical skills with a focus on process analysis and model development, culminating in insights from data and data-led recommendations. 
  • Data Analytics & Modelling: Expertise in quantitative analysis and model maintenance.  
  • PMO & Administrative Expertise: Excellent organisational skills, experience in management of governance, and a track record in PMO functions. 
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with diverse stakeholders from all levels of the business. 
  • Financial & Performance Data: Familiarity with financial metrics and operational data in a regulated environment.
