Job Description

Experienced Lead Construction Assurance Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring our contractors deliver infrastructure projects to the highest standards of time, quality, and cost

This is a critical leadership position where you’ll not only manage your portfolio of projects but also guide and support a team of engineers through the design, construction, and commissioning phases. Your expertise will ensure that all work is buildable, compliant, efficient, and aligned with regulatory and statutory requirements, while maximising value for Thames Water and our customers. 

What you’ll be doing as a Lead Construction Assurance Engineer  
  • Ensuring compliance with quality and environmental requirements in asset design and delivery, monitoring delivery performance and working with contractors to address issues and improve. 
  • Ensuring compliance with current CDM regulations. 
  • Engaging with Asset Management and Operations, identifying synergies and using lessons learned from previous projects to influence effective designs or solutions. 
  • Working with the design teams and contractors to resolve issues promptly to minimise the impact on the programme and cost. 
  • Assisting the design teams (contractors and internal) with practical, buildable solutions to ultimately meet the brief. 
  • Verification and approval (assurance) of contractor project plans (Project Delivery Plan) and pre-construction material.  Escalating any shortfalls in a timely manner so that Start on Site is not compromised. 
  • Liaison with Operations and contractors to approve passing through key milestones, with primary focus on Start on Site and Construction Complete 
  • Monitoring and approval of Take Over tests, where required, from Construction Complete. 
  • Total management of Takeovers
  • Coach and maximise the capability in the team to ensure a challenging assurance culture is maintained, and engineers can competently/constructively review and advise project PMs on issues and potential resolutions. 
Hybrid – Thames Valley Based. 

As part of this role, you are required to be on site 3-4 days a week, 36 hours a week, Monday through Friday. 

The successful candidate must have a valid driving license and access to a car - this role comes with a car allowance of £4,500 per year. 

What you should bring to the role 
  • Chartered Engineer or substantial experience in a similar role 
  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate.  
  • Considerable experience in understanding construction practices in the water/wastewater industries  
  • Extensive knowledge in defining and supporting solutions to complex problems.  
  • Proven track record as a problem solver on both Wastewater and Potable Water Infrastructure. 
  • Understanding of the development of design, construction and operation of infrastructure or non-infrastructure projects. 
  • Strong stakeholder internal and external communication skills. 
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of construction practices
