Head of Law (People) – Legal and Democratic Services
In partnership with Hammersmith & Fulham Council
 £550-£600 per day | Hybrid working with minimum 2 days per week in-office

Are you a visionary legal leader with extensive experience in social care and litigation law? Pertemps, partnering with Hammersmith & Fulham Council, is seeking a strategic Head of Law (People) to lead and inspire a high-performing legal team, delivering expert advice across the Council’s social care, education, and litigation functions.

Lead a dynamic team of at least 15 skilled lawyers, providing expert guidance and supervision within Legal and Democratic Services.
Be a key player in shaping legal strategy at a senior level, supporting Directors and senior leadership with innovative, intelligent legal solutions that align with complex organisational priorities.
Manage complex and high-profile legal matters in social care, education, and litigation, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective service delivery and robust legal compliance.
Influence policy and governance, advising Committees, Executive Members, Chief Executive, Directors, and senior officers on sensitive and strategic legal issues.
Drive continuous improvement, staff development, and a positive team culture reflecting the Council’s corporate values and commitment to customer focus.
Manage budgets, performance, and resources effectively to maintain a financially viable and high-performing legal service.
Be part of the Departmental Management Team contributing to broader strategic leadership across Legal Services.

About You
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or CILEX Fellow authorised to practise in England and Wales.
Extensive, proven expertise in social care law and/or litigation with significant management experience.
Highly influential with exceptional communication skills suited to senior stakeholders and political environments.
Strategic thinker with a track record of delivering creative, pragmatic legal solutions across complex organisational boundaries.
Politically aware, resilient, and dedicated to fostering an inclusive and collaborative workplace culture.

Hybrid Working
The Council values agility and flexibility in how and where work is done. This role requires a minimum of 2 days per week working from the office to enable collaboration and leadership presence while supporting flexible working practices.
