About the Role

An established specialist independent school in South West London is seeking a passionate SEN Teacher to lead a KS1/KS2 Adapted Curriculum class. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly therapeutic, low-arousal learning environment supporting pupils with speech, language and communication needs, autism, and complex learning profiles.
The role involves teaching a small class of up to 6 pupils, delivering a functional and adapted curriculum, and working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team including Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Behaviour Specialists and Teaching Assistants.
This is an ideal opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about inclusive education, communication development and holistic learning.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with an adapted/functional curriculum (Equals curriculum approach)
  • Support pupils with social communication needs and complex SEN
  • Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor pupil progress
  • Work collaboratively with therapists and support staff to implement strategies that support communication, sensory regulation and engagement
  • Foster a nurturing and positive learning environment that promotes independence and confidence
  • Communicate regularly with parents and contribute to annual reviews and progress reports
The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a teacher who:
  • Holds a relevant teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent)
  • Has at least 2 years post-qualification teaching experience

  • Has experience supporting children with autism, speech & language needs, or complex SEN
  • Is confident managing behaviour positively within a therapeutic environment
  • Has strong communication skills and works well within a multi-disciplinary team
Experience with the Equals Curriculum, AAC communication systems or therapeutic approaches is highly desirable but not essential.

What the School Offers:
  • Small class sizes (maximum 6 pupils)
  • A collaborative multi-disciplinary team environment
  • A modern, well-resourced specialist setting
  • Ongoing professional development and training
  • Access to a range of staff wellbeing benefits, including:
    • Wellbeing allowance
    • Healthcare cash plan
    • Free staff refreshments and lunches
    • Cycle to work scheme
The School Environment:

The school provides specialist education for children aged 3–19 with speech, language and communication needs. The ethos centres around building confidence, independence and communication skills, ensuring every child can thrive in a supportive and inclusive setting.
Interview Process:

  • School tour
  • Lesson observation
  • Teaching a short lesson
  • Formal interview
