About the School A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Streatham is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 2:1 support for pupils with additional needs.
The school supports children across EYFS, KS1, and KS2 and has a strong commitment to inclusive education and personalised learning. This role focuses on supporting pupils with Autism (ASC) and challenging behaviour, helping them to access learning, regulate emotions, and develop positive social interactions within the classroom and wider school environment.
Staff work closely with the SENCO, Behaviour Support Teams, Educational Psychologists, and external professionals to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive both academically and emotionally.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about SEN and behaviour support who is looking to make a genuine impact in a primary school setting.
Role and Responsibilities
  • Provide consistent 2:1 support for pupils with Autism and behavioural needs
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and social interaction
  • Implement positive behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
  • Assist the class teacher in adapting lessons to meet EHCP and SEN support plans
  • Help create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and independence
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
  • Support during transitions, breaktimes, and less structured parts of the school day
  • Track and monitor pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly Autism and challenging behaviour
  • Strong behaviour management skills with a calm, consistent approach
  • Patient, resilient, and nurturing personality
  • Confidence supporting pupils who require high levels of emotional and behavioural support
  • Experience in a primary school setting is desirable
  • Team Teach training is advantageous but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
