SEND Teaching Assistant – South Birmingham
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference every day? This supportive and well-resourced special school in South Birmingham is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team and support children with a range of special educational needs.

As a Teaching Assistant in this nurturing school, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide individualised support that enables every child to access learning and reach their full potential. The successful Teaching Assistant will be someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and enjoys creating positive, inclusive learning environments.
Job Role:
  • Supporting children with special educational needs in the classroom as a Teaching Assistant.
  • Working 1-2-1 and in small groups to deliver tailored interventions as a Teaching Assistant.
  • Assisting the class teacher with planning, preparation, and behaviour management.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils to promote confidence, independence, and engagement.
  • Collaborating with other Teaching Assistants, teachers, and support staff to ensure consistency of care and learning.
  • Using your experience as a Teaching Assistant to help children with communication, sensory, and social needs thrive.
  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to the teacher and SENCO.
  • Contributing to a positive and calm learning atmosphere as a key member of the Teaching Assistant team.
  • Helping to create engaging classroom displays and maintaining a safe, stimulating learning environment.
  • Demonstrating enthusiasm, empathy, and patience in every aspect of your Teaching Assistant role.
Requirements:
  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally supporting children with SEND.
  • A calm, nurturing approach with the ability to build trust and rapport quickly.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of children with additional needs.
  • A relevant qualification such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant (desirable but not essential).
