Job Description
Want hands-on Early Years experience before teacher training?
Support a busy EYFS class with a high proportion of SEN so learning stays calm and focused.
*** EYFS Learning Mentor
*** January 2026 – July 2026
*** £80 - £100 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** Support in an EYFS classroom with a high proportion of SEN
The Role:
You will be a constant, steady adult in Nursery and Reception so children can access learning throughout the day. You will set up and reset provision, prepare simple visuals, and keep zones clear so pupils can choose and tidy independently. You will run short adult-led activities in phonics, early number and communication, then fold gains back into play. You will use visual timetables, now and next cards, and first and then prompts to guide behaviour and transitions. You will model concise language, build vocabulary with repeatable talk frames, and coach sharing, waiting and turn taking. When needed, you will deliver calm 1:1 regulation breaks and return pupils to learning with a clear plan. You will record quick observations, update intervention notes, and agree next steps with the class teacher and SENCO. You will follow behaviour and safeguarding procedures and help with arrival, snack, outdoor learning and home time.
The Candidate & Requirements:
You are patient, organised and direct in your communication. You notice triggers early, keep routines tight, and help children build independence.
- Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication, confident written and spoken English.
- Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education/with children, strong interest in EYFS, SEN and wellbeing.
- Experience working with children, nursery, school or volunteering is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary runs predictable EYFS routines from arrival to home time. Classrooms and outdoor areas are well resourced with clear zones for role play, construction, small world, mark making and sensory exploration. Daily phonics is paired with matched reading practice. Early maths is taught in small steps with concrete and pictorial models and frequent retrieval so approaches stay consistent between classes. Inclusion is embedded with plan, do, review cycles, easy access to visual supports and regulation spaces, and regular SENCO check-ins. New staff receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and focused coaching drop ins so you can show impact quickly and build a strong platform for ITT.
How to Apply
