Job Description

Recruitment Consultant, Education

Key details
  • Salary: £25,000 to £30,000 plus commission
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Location: Westbourne Manor, Edgbaston
  • Desk: Warm, live schools, live vacancies, existing candidate pool
  • Desk focus: Master Vendor accounts and PSL clients

The role
You run a busy education desk. You fill day-to-day supply, long-term cover, and some permanent roles. You manage school relationships, control candidates, and protect service levels. You work fast, keep records clean, and follow safer recruitment expectations because schools do not mess around with safeguarding.

Warm desk means
  • You inherit active school accounts and regular requirements
  • You pick up live bookings straight away
  • You focus on delivery, retention, and growth, not cold-starting from zero

What you will do

Client management
  • Take detailed job briefs from schools, role type, key stage, subject, timetable, behaviour profile, SEN needs, start date, and booking length
  • Agree pay rates and confirm booking expectations
  • Keep schools updated throughout the day, especially on short notice cover
  • Build stronger relationships through consistent service, visits, and problem-solving

Filling bookings at speed
  • Match teachers, cover supervisors, teaching assistants, and SEN support staff to each requirement
  • Brief candidates properly so they arrive prepared and professional
  • Confirm bookings, arrival times, parking, safeguarding expectations, and dress code
  • Handle changes, cancellations, and sickness cover without losing control of the day

Candidate management
  • Interview and register education candidates, assess classroom suitability, strengths, and preferences
  • Maintain regular contact so you know who is available and who is not
  • Manage performance issues early, gather feedback from schools, and coach candidates to improve reliability
  • Create short candidate summaries for schools and keep CVs clear and school-friendly

Compliance and safeguarding
  • Ensure every placement meets safer recruitment expectations, including right to work evidence, references, and vetting records
  • Track DBS status and keep documentation audit-ready
  • Keep candidate files accurate on the CRM so you can deploy staff quickly and safely

Your Master Vendor duties
  • Respond to requirements fast and prioritise fill rate and quality
  • Keep communication tight with the client, one update is better than ten excuses
  • Track what you fill, what you miss, and why, then fix the pattern
  • Where required, release unfilled roles to secondary suppliers in line with the client process and timeframes
  • Protect standards across the supply chain by monitoring feedback and addressing issues early

PSL management
A PSL is a list of approved agencies a client agrees to use, with set rules on submissions, response times, compliance, and fees. You win through speed, accuracy, and candidate quality, while sticking to the framework.

Your PSL duties
  • Follow client rules on candidate submissions and service levels
  • Keep compliance standards consistent for every placement
  • Track performance metrics such as fill rate, time to fill, and reliability
  • Build relationships with key contacts so your agency becomes the first call, even inside a PSL

Desk growth
  • Upsell into new departments, year groups, and additional sites
  • Convert repeat supply into long-term placements and permanent hires
  • Keep your pipeline ahead of demand so the desk stays stable in peak periods

What you need
  • Experience in education recruitment, with evidence of filling roles at pace
  • Strong phone skills and confident candidate control
  • Solid understanding of education compliance and safeguarding expectations
  • Organised approach to CRM notes, availability, and live bookings

What you get
  • £23,000 to £26,000 plus commission
  • Warm desk with immediate live requirements
  • Office base at Westbourne Manor, Edgbaston, for when you want your job to look better than your living room

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted
