Job Description
Are you a graduate who wants KS1 experience while helping pupils close gaps in phonics, reading, writing, and maths?
*** KS1 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £80 - £100 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Ward of Edgbaston
*** Help raise attainment levels and bridge gaps
The Role:
The appointed KS1 Graduate Teaching Assistant will support pupils in Year 1 and Year 2 to strengthen core skills and make steady progress across the year. You will deliver focused 1:1 and small group sessions linked to class teaching, using short, structured tasks with clear success criteria, then feed outcomes back to the teacher so next steps stay precise. A key part of the role is supporting early reading, including phonics practice in line with the school approach, fluency routines, and comprehension through careful questioning. You will also support early writing by modelling sentences, reinforcing spelling and punctuation, and helping pupils build independence through scaffolds and clear routines. In maths, you will reinforce number sense, place value, basic calculation, and problem-solving using practical resources and step-by-step modelling. You will promote calm behaviour, consistent expectations, and positive relationships, while following safeguarding procedures and recording concerns promptly.
The Candidate:
You are a graduate who brings structure, patience, and clarity to KS1 learning. You explain tasks in simple steps, keep pupils focused, and use quick checks to spot gaps early. You take direction well, follow school routines closely, and care about small improvements in accuracy, confidence, and independence.
- Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
- Strong literacy and numeracy, confident supporting KS1 phonics, reading, writing, and maths
- Comfortable delivering 1:1 and small group interventions with clear outcomes and tight routines
- Confident using questioning to check understanding and adapt support in the moment
- Experience with children through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, or volunteering is desirable
- Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and recording concerns
- Enhanced DBS required, plus references and standard school vetting before starting
The School:
This Good primary school in the Ward of Edgbaston runs clear routines and focuses on strong early outcomes. Staff use assessment and structured interventions to target gaps, then review impact so pupils move forward quickly. You will join a supportive KS1 team, with clear guidance, resources, and consistent expectations so your intervention work links directly to classroom learning and raises attainment over time.
Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will receive a call to confirm your experience with children, your availability, and your suitability for KS1 support. We will then complete safeguarding and compliance checks, including Enhanced DBS and references, before arranging the next stage with the school. This is an immediate start role, so early applications take priority.
Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
