Job Description
Do you want a long-term KS1 role where you support pupils 1:1, in small groups, and in class, including SEN support, with clear routines and steady progress?
*** Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** Good primary school, Ward of Selly Oak
*** 1:1, small group and SEN support across the KS1 curriculum
The Role:
You will support pupils in Year 1 and Year 2 through a mix of in-class support and structured intervention. You will help pupils who need extra input to access learning, stay regulated, and complete work with growing independence. In class, you will reinforce instructions, model first steps, and scaffold tasks using practical strategies such as chunking, guided practice, visual prompts, and quick check-ins. You will support calm routines, transitions, and behaviour expectations so learning stays purposeful.
You will also run short 1:1 and small group sessions linked to class learning, so practice stays relevant and progress is easy to track. Your focus will sit mainly in English and maths, with pupils practising key skills through high repetition and clear feedback. KS1 learning follows national curriculum expectations, so your support will link to the core objectives pupils work towards in reading, writing, and maths.
For SEN support, you will follow agreed plans and strategies, keep routines predictable, and use practical adjustments to reduce barriers. You will keep brief, factual notes on what helped and what changed, then feed back to the teacher and SENCO so next steps stay clear and support stays consistent.
The Candidate:
You bring patience, clarity, and steady routines. You build trust through consistency, keep boundaries professional, and take feedback well so your support improves across the year.
- Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
- Confident supporting KS1 learning in class and in small groups
- Comfortable supporting pupils with additional needs through clear routines and practical strategies
- Experience with children through schools, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, camps, or volunteering is desirable
- Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations, aligned to statutory guidance
- Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting
The School:
You will join a Good primary school in the Ward of Selly Oak, in south-west Birmingham. The area includes a mix of residential communities and families, and schools rely on consistent routines and clear communication to keep support joined-up across classrooms.
You will be given direction on focus pupils, session priorities, and reporting lines from the start, so you are not guessing what to do each morning. Expect a team approach where intervention links to classroom teaching and progress is reviewed regularly.
Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm your September 2026 availability, your experience with children, and your confidence supporting KS1 and SEN needs. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged in good time for the start date.
Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
