Job Description
Are you a graduate who wants a full-year of hands-on SEND experience supporting a pupil with Autism and ADHD in a primary school?
- SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
- September 2026 to July 2027 (academic year)
- £85 - £105 per day
- ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
- 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism and ADHD
If you want a full-year of school-based experience before applying for a PGCE, teacher training, or a career in SEND, this SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant role gives you genuine responsibility and day-to-day impact. You will work closely with one pupil, help them access learning, and build the practical behaviour, communication, and classroom skills that schools value.
The Role
- You will provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism and ADHD across the school day.
- You will follow the pupil’s EHCP and support plan, using clear targets and agreed strategies.
- You will use simple routines, visual prompts, and step-by-step instructions to support focus and independence.
- You will support emotional regulation by using calm language, planned movement breaks, and structured transitions.
- You will adapt tasks so the pupil can access learning without lowering expectations.
- You will deliver short, focused interventions in reading, writing, and maths to close gaps and build confidence.
- You will record progress, triggers, and strategies that work, then share clear updates with the class teacher and SENCO.
- You will support safe, positive behaviour by using de-escalation techniques and consistent boundaries.
- You will follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times and report concerns immediately.
The Candidate
- You will have a 2:2 degree or above (Psychology, Childhood Studies, Education, Criminology, Sociology, or a related subject is ideal).
- You will have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
- You will communicate clearly and calmly, even when behaviour is challenging.
- You will be reliable, patient, and consistent, because pupils notice when adults are not.
- You will be comfortable taking direction and sticking to agreed strategies, not improvising for the sake of it.
- You will have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or you will be willing to obtain one.
The School
This ‘Good’ primary school in Wolverhampton has a clear focus on inclusion and strong routines that support pupils with additional needs. Staff work closely with the SENCO and families, and the school uses structured support plans so you know exactly what to do and why it matters. You will be part of a welcoming team that values consistency, kindness, and high standards for every pupil.
