Job Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you a graduate who wants a full-year of primary experience while delivering 1:1 and small group intervention support in KS1 or KS2?

  • Graduate Teaching Assistant
  • September 2026 to July 2027 (academic year)
  • £85 - £105 per day
  • ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
  • 1:1 and small group intervention support in either KS1 or KS2

If you want your school experience to count when you apply for a PGCE, this Graduate Teaching Assistant role gives you a full academic year of real, structured classroom work. You will support pupils who need targeted help to catch up, practise key skills, and build confidence, while learning the routines and expectations of a well-run primary school.

The Role
  • You will deliver 1:1 and small group interventions in either KS1 or KS2, matched to pupil need.
  • You will support core learning in phonics, reading, writing, and maths through short, focused sessions.
  • You will pre-teach key vocabulary and concepts so pupils can access lessons more confidently.
  • You will scaffold tasks using clear steps, modelling, and prompts that build independence.
  • You will support pupils with attention, confidence, or learning gaps to stay engaged during lessons.
  • You will record progress and share clear feedback with the class teacher and, where needed, the SENCO.
  • You will follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times and report concerns immediately.

The Candidate
  • You will have a 2:2 degree or above in any subject (Education, Psychology, English, Maths or Childhood Studies is useful, but not essential).
  • You will have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
  • You will communicate clearly and build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • You will be reliable, proactive, and comfortable taking direction in a busy school day.
  • You will have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or you will be willing to obtain one.

The School
This ‘Good’ primary school in Wolverhampton has strong routines, clear expectations, and a focus on pupil progress. Staff use structured interventions to support pupils who need extra help, and you will be guided on what to deliver, how to deliver it, and how to measure impact. You will join a welcoming team that values consistency, calm support, and high standards.
