Job Description

*** 1:1, small group and general classroom support in KS1
If you want a hands-on role in a KS1 classroom where you can see progress quickly, this Graduate Teaching Assistant position gives you that exposure from day one. You will support pupils with early reading, phonics, writing and number, while learning how strong routines, clear behaviour expectations, and well-timed intervention help children thrive in school.
The Role
- You will provide 1:1 support for pupils who need extra help with phonics, early reading, writing or maths.
- You will run small group interventions to build core skills, confidence and classroom independence.
- You will support whole-class learning by circulating, checking understanding, and keeping pupils on task.
- You will reinforce key routines, transitions and expectations to help behaviour for learning stay positive.
- You will support the teacher with resources, displays, and lesson set-up so learning runs smoothly.
- You will use clear prompts, modelling and scaffolds so pupils can complete work independently.
- You will record progress and share short, useful feedback with the class teacher and, where needed, the SENCO.
- You will follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times and report concerns immediately.
The Candidate
- You will have a 2:2 degree or above in any subject (Education, Psychology, English, Maths or Childhood Studies is useful, but not essential).
- You will have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
- You will communicate clearly and build positive relationships with young children.
- You will be calm, patient and consistent, especially when pupils test boundaries.
- You will be reliable, proactive, and willing to take direction in a fast-moving classroom.
- You will have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or you will be willing to obtain one.
