Job Description

SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want a KS2 role where you can build strong SEND experience while supporting pupils with Autism and ADHD in a high-performing primary school?

*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 start until July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** Excellent primary school, Ward of Yardley
*** 1:1, small group and classroom support in KS2 (Autism & ADHD)

If you want a full academic year of practical, day-to-day experience before applying for a PGCE, this SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant role gives you the right exposure in KS2. You will support pupils with Autism and ADHD through structured routines, clear expectations and targeted intervention, helping them stay regulated, access learning, and make steady progress across the curriculum. Evidence strongly supports structured, classroom-linked interventions and well-deployed support staff when it is consistent and purposeful.

The Role
  • You will provide 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with Autism and ADHD throughout the school day.
  • You will deliver small group interventions in reading, writing and maths, linked to class teaching.
  • You will support whole-class learning by checking understanding and keeping pupils on task.
  • You will use visual prompts, chunking and clear routines to reduce overload and build independence.
  • You will support emotional regulation using agreed strategies and calm, consistent boundaries.
  • You will record progress and key observations, and you will share clear feedback with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • You will follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times and report concerns immediately.

The Candidate
  • You will have a 2:2 degree or above (Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Sociology or similar is ideal).
  • You will have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
  • You will be calm, consistent and confident supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • You will communicate clearly and maintain professional boundaries.
  • You will be reliable, proactive and comfortable following support plans consistently.
  • You will have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or you will be willing to obtain one.

The School
This excellent primary school in the Ward of Yardley has strong routines and a clear focus on inclusion and pupil progress. Staff work closely as a team, and support is structured so pupils with Autism and ADHD can access learning confidently. You will be guided by experienced teachers and the SENCO, and you will gain practical experience that translates directly into teacher training and wider SEND pathways.
