Job Description
Do you want a full academic year in EYFS where you support a pupil with Autism and build experience that genuinely strengthens your application for a PGCE?
*** Graduate LSA
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** ‘Outstanding’ primary school, Hall Green
*** 1:1 support in EYFS for a pupil with Autism
If you want early years’ experience that goes beyond general classroom support, this Graduate LSA role gives you consistent, hands-on responsibility in EYFS. You will work 1:1 with a pupil with Autism, helping them feel safe, settled and ready to learn through clear routines, calm communication and practical strategies that support regulation and engagement.
The Role
- You will provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism throughout the EYFS day.
- You will follow the pupil’s support plan and agreed strategies, keeping routines predictable and calm.
- You will support communication and interaction through modelling language, visuals, and simple step-by-step instructions.
- You will help the pupil access learning through play-based activities and short, structured tasks linked to classroom learning.
- You will support emotional regulation using agreed approaches, including calm transitions, movement breaks, and sensory-aware strategies.
- You will promote independence by using prompts and scaffolds that reduce over-reliance on adult support.
- You will record key observations and progress and share clear updates with the class teacher and SENCO.
- You will support the wider classroom when appropriate, while keeping the pupil’s support consistent and purposeful.
- You will follow safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times and report concerns immediately.
The Candidate
- You will have a 2:2 degree or above in any subject (Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies or a related subject is useful, but not essential).
- You will have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above.
- You will be calm, patient and consistent, especially when a child feels overwhelmed or dysregulated.
- You will communicate clearly with young children and adults and maintain professional boundaries.
- You will be reliable, proactive and comfortable following a plan precisely, because consistency is what works.
- You will have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or you will be willing to obtain one.
The School
This ‘Outstanding’ primary school in Hall Green has high expectations, strong routines and a clear commitment to inclusion in EYFS. Staff work closely as a team and use structured support so pupils with additional needs can settle quickly and make progress. You will be guided by experienced EYFS staff and the SENCO, and you will gain practical experience that translates directly into teacher training and wider SEND pathways.
