Job Description

Year 5 Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you looking to build strong primary school experience before moving into teacher training or educational psychology? Could you provide 1:1, small-group, and classroom support that helps Year 5 pupils stay on track and make steady progress?

*** Year 5 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** £90 - £110 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1, small group and general classroom support

The Role:
Support Year 5 pupils through a mix of 1:1 work, small-group intervention, and general classroom support. You will help pupils stay focused, reinforce learning in English and Maths, prepare simple resources, and give teachers clear feedback on progress. Teaching assistants commonly support children with reading, writing, and learning activities in class.

The Candidate:
You are organised, approachable, and able to explain ideas clearly to primary-aged pupils. You want to build practical classroom experience, work closely with teaching staff, and play a useful role in helping children grow in confidence, engagement, and attainment.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate. Roles involving regulated activity with children can require an Enhanced DBS check with a Children’s Barred List check, and other work with children can still be eligible for an Enhanced DBS check.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Experience working with children – Any relevant experience such as tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, coaching, or school-based support is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ primary school in Wolverhampton has clear routines, supportive leadership, and a positive staff culture. You will join a team that values classroom support, shared responsibility, and steady pupil progress, making it a strong setting for a graduate who wants meaningful experience before moving into a long-term role in education.
