Job Description

Year 1 Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you hoping to gain early primary experience before moving into teacher training or educational psychology? Could you help a Year 1 class settle, engage, and develop a real love of learning from the start?

*** Year 1 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** £90 - £110 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** Help instil a love of education to young minds

The Role:
Support a Year 1 class through a mix of classroom support, small-group work, and focused 1:1 help. You will reinforce early reading, writing, phonics, and number work, help pupils stay engaged in lessons, and support the teacher with simple resources and feedback on progress. Teaching assistants commonly support learning activities, classroom organisation, and pupil development across the school day.

The Candidate:
You are patient, positive, and able to communicate clearly with young children. You want to build meaningful school-based experience, support pupils at an important stage of their development, and play a practical role in helping them grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.

The School:
This ‘Good’ primary school in Wolverhampton has clear routines, supportive leadership, and a strong focus on helping pupils settle well into school life. You will join a Year 1 team that values encouragement, consistency, and purposeful classroom support, making it a strong setting for a graduate who wants relevant experience in early primary education. Primary education covers children aged 3 to 11 and focuses on their educational, social, and emotional development, so Year 1 support work can give you strong grounding for future teacher training.
