SEN Academic Coach

Could you be the consistent adult a Year 9 pupil with ADHD needs to stay focused and make progress in school? Are you looking for hands-on secondary SEN experience before moving into teaching, educational psychology, or clinical psychology?

*** SEN Academic Coach
*** September 2026 to July 2027

The Role:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 9 student with ADHD across the school day. You will help the pupil stay engaged in lessons, manage routines and transitions, break tasks into manageable steps, and feed back clearly to teachers and the SENCO. The Candidate:
You are calm, observant, and able to build trust with pupils who need structure and consistency. You communicate clearly, stay patient under pressure, and want practical school-based experience supporting a young person with additional needs. This role would suit a graduate who wants relevant SEN experience before progressing into teacher training or psychology-related training.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher or pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.

The School:
This ‘Good’ secondary school in Bilston has clear routines, supportive leadership, and a strong focus on inclusive practice. You will work closely with experienced staff in a setting that values structured support, practical guidance, and steady progress for pupils with additional needs. National careers guidance for SEN teaching assistants highlights the importance of supporting teachers and helping pupils with special educational needs access learning effectively.
