Job Description

Qualified Social Worker - Support and Protect Team
  • £45.00 + £100 weekly travel expenses
  • Carlisle, Cumbria
  • 37 hours p/w
  • Hybrid, 2 days work from home

About the role:
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate qualified social worker to join a Support and Protect team based in Carlisle, Cumbria. You will  be working with children and families on a short- longer term basis, completing assessments and working across the thresholds of Child in Need and Child Protection.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989, including Child & Family Assessments.
  • Manage a caseload of children subject to Child in Need, Child Protection Plans, and care proceedings.
  • Complete risk assessments and develop outcome-focused care and safety plans.
  • Initiate and progress Public Law Outline (PLO) and court proceedings where necessary.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences, Core Group meetings, and court.
  • Work in partnership with children, families, and multi-agency professionals to safeguard children and promote welfare.
  • Undertake direct work with children to understand and reflect their voice in all assessments and planning.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and evidence-based recording in line with statutory requirements and local policy.
  • Participate in duty rota and respond to safeguarding concerns as required.
  • Attend regular supervision and contribute to team development and service improvement initiatives.

What you need:
  • A degree in Social Work or equivalent
  • Registered with Social Work England
  • At least 3 years PQE direct employment within English Local Authorities
  • Completed relevant post-qualifying training
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Excellent communication and written skills
