Job Description

Role Purpose
A Commercial Waste Sales Officer to develop commercial waste sales and consistently increase the financial turnover of the commercial portfolio of the council

Responsibilities 
  • Responsibility for commercial waste sales both inside and outside of Hackney's boundaries. This includes all commercial activity sold directly by the council within its boundaries and also all Local Authority Trading Company work regardless of its location.
  • To be accountable to the Senior Commercial Sales Officer for routinely achieving commercial sales and for meeting sales targets set.
  • Responsibility for all sales within the allocated sales area, which will, from time to time, change.
  • Ensuring daily sales figures are updated on the council's system /reporting platform.
  • Ensuring any issues impacting a sales officer's ability to make sales are brought to the notice of the Senior Sales Officer and that issues are rectified at the earliest opportunity.
  • Maintaining positive business relationships to ensure future sales.
  • To mentor junior sales staff through sharing sales experience, practical sales training and customer relationship building support.
  • To be flexible in your hours of work by tailoring start and finish times to meet the service needs, including making adjustments to working hours where necessary to fit sales activity in with business opening hours.
  • To represent the Council in a professional manner when interacting with clients in the course of delivering Commercial Waste Services.
  • To develop and implement initiatives, that will add value to the services being delivered by the Commercial Waste Department.
  • To develop and implement marketing and operational strategies to maximise the customer base against competition from private competitors.

Requirements
  • Able to demonstrate a track record/ability to strategically plan and deliver high quality customer focused service.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to devise strategies and translate them into realisable plans.
  • To demonstrate an ability to manage financial and operational performance utilising key performance indicators as a tool.
  • A requirement to have a personal and professional approach which generates credibility, respect and confidence amongst clients, colleagues and senior members of the organisation, the Council and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and presentational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong desire to succeed in delivering high quality services.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • A good communicator with the ability to be clear, concise, engaging and authentic.
  • To have or be capable of having a good working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act as it relates to the delivery of a Commercial Waste Service.
  • To demonstrate a track record of setting objectives and standards for managing and supervising staff and operatives including expectations, timescales and establishing clear lines of responsibility.
